Almond Iced Latte

I've always liked coffee. My first memory of it is when I was three years old and my maternal grandmother would invite me to share in her afternoon coffee ritual. She would set a nice table filled with all kinds of pastries and cookies, ideal for this kind of beverage. In retrospect, it might not have been a good idea to invite a child of that age to drink coffee, but I think my grandmother wasn't hung up on those kinds of details. Ever since then I've been fascinated with having a glass of ice-cold coffee with milk every day. It's really easy to make, the ingredients are always on hand, and I can guarantee that a large cup of coffee doesn't cost more than a few dollars. The satisfaction is beyond compare!To my mother's surprise, who is a fan of hot chocolate for breakfast, I came out a coffee lover. This means that as I grew older and experimented I was able to vary my homemade coffee. Sometimes I would use soymilk, and other times homemade almond milk, I even concocted a version with coconut milk. Since it was so hot, I would fill the glass with cubes of ice and mix it all in a blender to make it a frappe, so delicious! After all my experiments and trials throughout my life, I leave you with this adult iced latte recipe (there's Amaretto in it). You can skip this ingredient if you like, but it tastes great with it!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of cold coffee
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1/4 cup of half & half or almond milk
  • 2 tablespoons of Amaretto (optional)
  • Ground nutmeg

Directions

    Pour the cold coffee into two cups. Add sugar to taste.

    Add a splash of half & half or almond milk plus one tablespoon of Amaretto in each cup.

    Sprinkle a bit of nutmeg and serve with straws.

    Serve with a plate of cinnamon cookies.

Expert Tips

    If you don't have regular coffee you can use instant coffee. The result will still be delicious.

    You can use an artificial sweetener instead of sugar.

    If you don’t want to add Amaretto, try adding a drop of almond extract to get that delicious almond flavor.
