Cooking games for kids can be a great way to get them involved in the kitchen… particularly when it comes to cakes and desserts! Here’s a fun way to tempt them into trying something new while learning about astronomy. These tasty planet cake-pops are really easy to make and are a great way to teach your young ones about the solar system, while also showing them a few things about the kitchen. I hope you have as much fun with this project as I did!

Ingredients

  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix (or your favorite flavor)
  • Water, vegetable oil, eggs as directed on the box
  • 1 cup from 1 tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Chocolate Frosting (or your favorite flavor)
  • Parchment paper
  • 8 paper lollipop sticks
  • 1 bag of candy melts in red, blue, green, yellow, orange, black and white

Directions

  •
    1
Bake the cake as directed on the box. Cool completely.
  •
    2
Crumble cake into a large bowl.
  •
    3
Add 2/3 cups of frosting to the crumbled cake.

Using a deep bowl or mug, microwave white candy melts (a handful or enough to be able to submerge the pop entirely) in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. Repeat until completely melted.
  •
    6
Remove cake balls from the freezer. Dip the tip of the lollipop stick into the white candy melt and insert into the cake ball, no more than halfway through. Place them back in the freezer.
  •
    7
Microwave each different color of candy melts separately in a tall, narrow container. Dip one cake pop into its respective color one at a time (for example, Mars would be dipped in the red candy melt). You can tap off the excess by holding the stick with one hand while tapping with your free hand.
