Making homemade doughnuts is very easy, especially when you have the key ingredients at hand, like this super-practical dough from Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls, which makes for delicious doughnuts. For these tropical-flavored guava doughnuts, we’ll also need a can of guava paste for the filling. Once the doughnuts are ready, roll them in cinnamon sugar and serve immediately. Remember that fried breads are incredibly delicious and are best consumed fresh; otherwise they may not taste as yummy. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
  • 1 can guava paste
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon powder
  • 4 cups vegetable oil

Directions

    Open the tube of Crescent Rolls and stretch out the dough. Cut out circles of approximately 2 inches.

    Using a small, round cookie-cutter (about 1 inch), cut out circles of guava paste.

    Place one guava circle on each circle of dough.

    Cover with the dough and seal the borders with a fork. Repeat until all the doughnuts are ready to fry.

    In the meantime, add the oil to a pot and cook over medium heat until it reaches a temperature of 365 °F.

    Add the doughnuts in batches, three or four at a time, and fry until browned on one side, about 3 minutes.

    Flip and fry the other side.

    Place on a large dish lined with paper towels to absorb the excess oil.

    Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl.

    Roll each doughnut in the mixture until completely covered.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
    Replace the guava paste with quince or pineapple paste.
  • tip 2
    Whenever you work work hot oil, you should be careful. This is a dangerous process and I suggest you keep the pot of oil on the back burners to avoid accidents.

    When you add the dough to the oil, try not to drop it from high above so that the hot oil doesn't splash out at you. When you finish, let it cool to room temperature before moving it.
