Sweet and Sour Chicken Wings

These are scrumptious chicken wings. I grew up in a close family that gathered every week and was always looking for an excuse to celebrate with our delicious traditional dishes. I especially remember my aunt Clarita, an excellent hostess who was ready to welcome everyone no matter what time it happened to be! She was always ready to offer her guests her one-of-a-kind dishes, without ever losing her smile and kindness. Among the many recipes I learned from my aunt are her famous sweet-and-sour wings. Today, it’s one of my friends’ and family’s favorite dishes. Plus, it’s quick and easy to make. These yummy sweet-and-sour wings have made me famous, because every time I make them everyone wants to know the recipe and to find out what it is that makes them so irresistible!

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs thawed chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon of canola oil
  • 1 chopped garlic clove
  • 1/2 chopped white onion
  • 5 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of tomato sauce

Directions

    Place thawed wings in a pot; cover with water and cook for 25 minutes. Drain, and discard leftover water.

    Add a teaspoon of canola oil, chopped garlic and onion, stir ; immediately sprinkle with brown sugar. Let simmer for 10 minutes, until wings are golden brown.

    Finally, add the tomato sauce; leave on medium heat for 25 minutes. Stir occasionally few times, so the sauce covers all wings.

    Stir carefully, so as not to break apart the wings.

    I suggest complementing these wings with celery and carrot salad, or with rice or bread.
