This is another version of the traditional Venezuelan ham rolls. It’s made with puff pastry, so it’s got a crunchy and delicious texture. Ham rolls are a traditional Christmas dish in Venezuela, but my husband thinks they should be available all year. That’s really not a bad idea considering how delicious it is. I love eating it for breakfast with a cup of coffee. You’re going to love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of frozen puff pastry thawed
  • 1/2 lb sliced ham
  • 1 1/2 cups green olives stuffed with peppers, chopped on wheels
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar

Directions

  •
    1
Preheat the oven to 390°F. Line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  •
    2
Lay the dough out on a lightly floured surface. Use a rolling pin to extend the dough until you have a rectangle that’s approximately 15x10 inches.
  •
    3
Place one layer of ham on the entire surface of the dough. Now equally distribute the olives and raisins. Roll up tightly beginning on one of the wide sides. Seal the ends by closing with your fingers.
  •
    4
Mix the egg, water and sugar in small bowl. Set aside.
  •
    5
Place the bread on the lined baking dish. Cover in the egg mixture and make three small openings on the surface.
  •
    6
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until browned and cooked inside.
  •
    7
    Let cool before cutting.
