Some insects, like crickets, grasshoppers and locusts, are part of a regular diet in many countries. In Mexico, grasshoppers are consumed in all the states in the center of the country as well as in the southeast, especially in Oaxaca. You can prepare a variety of dishes with grasshoppers, from quesadillas to tacos. This recipe is for tacos; give them a try!

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • Olive oil, to taste
  • Chopped fresh cilantro, to taste
  • 1 chile de árbol, chopped
  • 9 oz grasshoppers
  • Corn tortillas
  • Lemon, to taste

Directions

  • 1
    Peal and chop the onion and dice the tomatoes.
  • 2
    Brown the onions in a pan with oil and add the tomatoes and cilantro. Incorporate the chopped pepper and the grasshoppers.

    Serve with corn tortillas, onion, cilantro and lemon.
